Using Social Media Marketing to Promote your UK Business

There are many compelling reasons why all UK Businesses should use Social Media Marketing to promote their Company.  Social Media Marketing is being used more and more as the primary online vehicle to build and create brand awareness and online credibility. 

Consumers – your customers and prospects – are using online reviews and comments made in the social media sites about your products and services to help them make a buying decision.  There are literally thousands of ‘social networking’ sites covering almost every topic.  These are online all day, every day and all give people the opportunity to give their opinion.  Why not encourage your customers to leave an opinion or give a review about you?

If you ask each of your customers to leave a review online about their experience in dealing with your company, you will accomplish a few things:

  • Your future customers will know that customer service is important to you.
  • Your staff will understand the importance of giving excellent customer service
  • Increased visibility and brand awareness.

As a business owner or business decision maker you can take part in promoting your company online by being active in the appropriate social networks yourself. 

What your customers can do

It is very easy for your customers to take part and write reviews about your business in the popular social networking sites.  You should create a list of the social networking sites that are important to your business – the ones your customers and prospects use – and tell your customers which ones you would like them to leave a review on.  Ask them to make sure that they use your business or brand name in their review and also ask them to let people know which product or service they bought from you.  This will help to further increase your brand identity.  You could consider a small incentive for customers as a thank you for taking the time to do the review.  This could be a voucher of some other offer against future purchases.

What your business can do

You should Register as a member with the popular social media websites and actively participate in any relevant conversation that might be happening.  This is an excellent way not only to build brand awareness but also to establish yourself as an expert in your niche.  Promote your participation to your customers – how often these days do you see ‘follow us on Facebook’ and ‘follow us on Twitter’ on company websites?    Most Social Networking websites will allow you to create a dedicated group based on your business activities.

Using social media marketing is an excellent and effective way to engage with your customers and prospects on both a company and personal level.  It can ‘humanise’ your business for your prospects and will undoubtedly help you to establish and build your online credibility.
